Rapid Dental Pain Management

What to Do in an Emergency

A sudden, severe toothache or a knocked-out tooth can be incredibly distressing. Knowing what steps to take immediately can mean the difference between saving and losing a tooth.

At Croydon Dental Group, we understand that dental pain requires urgent attention. For over 45 years, our clinic has prioritised rapid, gentle care to help our community find immediate relief

Here is a practical guide on managing dental pain before you reach our clinic

1. Severe, Constant Toothache A throbbing ache often signals an infection. While you wait to see us:New Paragraph

Rinse: Use warm salt water to clean the area and reduce swelling.

Floss Gently: Remove any trapped food causing pressure.

Pain Relief: Use standard painkillers safely, but never place an aspirin tablet directly against your gums to avoid chemical burns.

2. A Knocked-Out Tooth Time is critical. Act quickly, and the tooth can often be saved

Handle by the Crown: Pick it up by the chewing part, never the root.

Store Correctly: Place it back in the socket if possible, or store it in a container of milk or wrap it in plastic with some saliva. Seek help immediately

3. Chipped or Cracked Tooth

Rinse: Clean the area with warm water.

Protect: Cover sharp edges with sugarless gum or dental wax so you don't cut your cheek.

Save the Pieces: Bring any broken fragments to your appointment.

4. Facial Swelling

Swelling indicates an advanced infection requiring immediate professional treatment. Apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek for 10-15 minutes at a time while heading to the clinic.

Do Not Wait in Pain We do our very best to accommodate emergencies quickly. If you are experiencing intense pain, call our team right away.
